The BK 403-001 is a Schedule 80 PVC close-pattern nipple designed for the transport of water and other liquids in pressurized piping systems. Sized at 1/2 inch IPS (iron pipe size), it is threaded to NPT (National Pipe Thread) standards on both ends and manufactured to meet ASTM D1785 specifications. The Schedule 80 wall thickness provides added pressure rating and durability compared to Schedule 40, making it suitable for applications where higher mechanical strength is required. Plumbers and pipefitters install these nipples as short connectors between fittings, valves, and other threaded pipe components.
This nipple is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing, irrigation, and industrial fluid-handling systems where PVC is an approved piping material. Its close-pattern length makes it the right choice when minimal clearance is needed between two threaded connections. The NPT thread form ensures compatibility with standard threaded fittings and valves across a wide range of system types. Thread sealant compound or PTFE tape should be applied to the threaded portion before assembly to ensure a leak-free joint.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard component for Schedule 80 PVC threaded piping systems using 1/2 inch NPT connections.
Installation is typically performed by licensed plumbers in accordance with applicable IPC or local plumbing code requirements. Shut off and depressurize the system before removing or installing any threaded nipple. Apply pipe thread compound or PTFE tape to the male threads before making up the joint — do not overtighten, as PVC threads can crack under excessive torque. Inspect the completed joint for leaks before returning the system to service.
