The BK 161-103 is a 1/2-inch male iron pipe thread (MIPT) to compression union PVC adapter designed for cold water plumbing applications. One end features a male pipe thread connection; the other uses a compression-style fit, allowing the two connection types to be joined without solvent welding. The fitting is compatible with Schedule 40 cold water iron or PVC pipe. Plumbers and pipe fitters install this adapter when transitioning from threaded iron pipe to compression-style PVC lines in residential and light commercial cold water supply systems.
This adapter sees use in cold water distribution systems where a transition between threaded iron pipe and Schedule 40 PVC is required. Typical applications include under-sink supply connections, water service entry fittings, and repairs to existing iron pipe runs where PVC compression fittings are being introduced. The fitting is sold individually and is suited for both new installation and retrofit work.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and new-installation fitting compatible with Schedule 40 cold water iron pipe and Schedule 40 PVC pipe systems using 1/2-inch MIPT threaded connections.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and IPC guidelines. Shut off and depressurize the water supply line before beginning work. Thread the MIPT end into the female fitting hand-tight, then apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape before final tightening. Ensure the compression end is seated fully on the pipe and the compression nut is tightened to a snug fit without over-torquing, which can crack PVC fittings.
