The BESSEY CMS-1 is a magnetic welding fabrication square designed to hold workpieces at precise angles during welding, tacking, and metal fabrication tasks. Built around a ferrite magnet core with an average pull force of 100 pounds, it provides a stable, hands-free grip on ferrous metal surfaces. The T-handle release mechanism allows controlled magnet engagement and disengagement without prying or shifting the workpiece. At 2.6 pounds, the unit is compact enough to reposition quickly on a fabrication table or structural steel assembly. Welders, fabricators, and ironworkers rely on this type of tool to maintain joint alignment throughout the tack-welding process.
The CMS-1 is suited for both light fabrication bench work and field structural applications where consistent 45-degree and 90-degree joint angles are required. Its ferrite magnet construction performs reliably on flat plate, angle iron, tube steel, and other standard ferrous stock. The compact footprint measuring 3-3/4 inches wide, 1-5/8 inches deep, and 4-3/8 inches high allows it to fit into tight joint areas where larger squares or clamps cannot reach. Typical users include structural welders, pipe fitters, and metal fabricators working in shop or field environments.
Designed for use on ferrous metal workpieces in standard welding and metal fabrication applications requiring fixed 45-degree or 90-degree joint angles.
Position the CMS-1 against the workpiece before energizing any welding equipment. Ensure the contact surfaces of the magnet and the workpiece are free of scale, heavy slag, or debris that could reduce holding force. Use the T-handle to release the magnet rather than pulling or prying the body, which can shift the joint alignment. Welding spatter near the magnet body should be cleared regularly to maintain full contact surface area.
