The BESSEY 540-8 is a standard C-clamp built for regular-duty clamping in fabrication, welding, woodworking, and general trade applications. The body and frame are ductile iron with a powder-coated finish for corrosion resistance. The spindle and screw are alloy steel with a plain spindle finish and black oxide screw coating. With a maximum opening capacity of 8 inches and a throat depth of 3.25 inches, this clamp handles a wide range of workpiece thicknesses. Load capacity is rated at 1,247 pounds, and clamping pressure reaches 2,750 psi. The alloy steel screw measures 0.84 inches in diameter. This clamp is installed by fabricators, ironworkers, pipefitters, and general contractors requiring reliable workholding.
The 540-8 is suited for standard-depth clamping tasks across residential and commercial job sites. Typical applications include holding steel plate, pipe, lumber, and structural members during welding, drilling, gluing, or assembly. The 8-inch opening accommodates thick stock and multi-layer assemblies. The ductile iron body resists cracking under load better than gray iron, making it appropriate for repeated heavy use in shop and field environments.
Designed as a standard C-clamp for general trade and fabrication use where an 8-inch opening and 3.25-inch throat depth are required.
No power source or special tools are required to operate this clamp. Tighten the spindle by hand or with a tommy bar to rated clamping pressure — do not use pipe extensions or impact tools on the screw handle, as this can exceed rated load and damage the body. Inspect the ductile iron frame for cracks before each use, especially after high-load applications. Always position the anvil foot flat against the workpiece to distribute load evenly and prevent slipping.
