The BELL GOSSETT BG 186862LF is a lead-free mechanical seal kit designed for centrifugal pumps with 1-1/4 inch shafts. It includes a Buna elastomer, carbon ring, ceramic insert, and brass body — the complete set of wear components required to restore a reliable seal between the pump's rotating shaft and stationary housing. Mechanical seals in this position prevent process fluid from leaking out of the pump casing during operation. This kit weighs 0.25 pounds and is classified as Seal Kit No. 1, the standard seal type for the supported pump series. Licensed plumbers and mechanical contractors typically install this kit during scheduled pump maintenance or in response to observed shaft seal leakage.
This seal kit is used in light commercial and residential hydronic systems where Bell Gossett in-line and end-suction pumps are installed. It repairs current-production Series e-80 in-line pumps and Series e-1510 base-mounted, Series e-1531 close-coupled, and Series e-1532 foot-mounted end-suction pumps. It also restores discontinued Series 80, Series 1510, and Series 1531 pumps. Compatible B and G pump models include 1-1/4AB, 1-1/4AC, 1-1/4BB, 1-1/4BC, 1.25AD, 1.25BC, 1-1/2AB, 1-1/2AC, 1-1/2BB, 1-1/2BC, 1.5AD, 1.5BC, 2AB, 2AC, 2AD, 2BB, 2BC, 2BD, 2E, 2EB, 2-1/2A, 2-1/2AB, 2-1/2B, 2-1/2BB, 2.5AC, 2.5BB, 3AB, 3AC, 3AD, 3BB, 3BC, 3BD, 3E, 3EB, 4AB, 4AC, 4AD, 4BB, 4BC, 4BD, 4E, 4EB, 5BB, 5BC, and 5BD.

Supersedes part numbers 186680 and 186862.
Seal kit replacement should be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified mechanical contractor. Before beginning work, shut down the pump, de-energize the motor at the disconnect, and isolate the pump from the system using service valves to relieve pressure and drain residual fluid. Inspect the shaft and seal housing for scoring or corrosion before installing the new seal components, as shaft damage will cause premature seal failure. Follow the pump manufacturer's assembly sequence for the carbon ring and ceramic insert seating to ensure proper face alignment.
