Tight-buffered construction encases each individual fiber directly in a protective coating, making the cable well-suited for indoor backbone and horizontal runs where mechanical protection and ease of termination are priorities. The plenum rating means the jacket compound meets the smoke and flame requirements for air-handling spaces per NFPA 70 (NEC) Article 770, removing the need for conduit in many plenum ceiling and raised-floor installations. Licensed low-voltage contractors and structured-cabling technicians are the typical installers.
This cable is used in commercial and enterprise indoor environments where OM3 multimode fiber infrastructure supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet, 40GbE, or 100GbE backbone links over short to moderate distances. The 48-fiber count suits high-density distribution frames, main distribution areas (MDAs), and horizontal cross-connect (HC) closets where consolidating a large number of strands into a single pull reduces congestion in cable trays and conduit. Installation should be performed by a licensed low-voltage or structured-cabling contractor familiar with TIA-568 and NEC Article 770 requirements. Do not exceed the cable manufacturers minimum bend radius or maximum pulling tension during installation, as exceeding these limits can degrade optical performance or cause fiber breakage. All power to active equipment in the pathway should be confirmed off or isolated before beginning cable pulls in live equipment rooms. Connector termination should follow the appropriate polish and test procedures per TIA-526 to verify insertion loss meets the design specification.
