The BD MANUFACTURING SPMA55 is a straight male adapter designed to connect polyethylene (PE) piping systems to male threaded (MPT) fittings and components. One end accepts PE pipe via socket fusion, and the other end terminates in a male threaded connection. This fitting is sized at 1 inch on both ends, making it a direct, same-size transition piece. It is used by plumbers and utility contractors working on PE water service lines, irrigation systems, and other low-pressure fluid piping applications where a fusion-bonded PE pipe must transition to a threaded connection point.
This male adapter is suited for residential and light commercial installations where polyethylene piping meets a threaded valve, meter, or manifold. The socket fusion end requires a proper fusion tool and procedure to achieve a permanent, leak-free bond with compatible PE pipe. The MPT end threads directly into a female-threaded (FPT) port on downstream equipment or fittings. Installers working on water service laterals, drip irrigation mains, or geothermal loop piping commonly use this type of adapter at system entry and exit points.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard trade fitting for 1 inch PE piping systems requiring a socket fusion to male threaded transition.
Socket fusion connections must be made by a qualified plumber or pipefitter using a calibrated socket fusion tool heated to the temperature specified for the pipe material and fitting size. Allow the fused joint to cool completely before pressurizing the system. Shut off and depressurize the line before threading the MPT end into any downstream component. Apply thread sealant tape or compound to the male threads in accordance with applicable plumbing codes.
