The BARE COPPER bare6str7sd1000r is a bare, uncoated copper conductor supplied on a 1000-foot spool. It is built from soft-drawn copper in a 7-strand configuration at 6 AWG, giving it a rated current capacity of 130 amps. The 7-strand construction makes the wire more flexible than solid conductors of the same gauge, which simplifies pulling through conduit, routing around obstructions, and terminating at lugs or busbars. The outer diameter measures 184 mils. Electricians and grounding contractors specify this type of conductor for grounding electrode systems, bonding applications, and general bare-conductor wiring where an insulated jacket is not required by code.
Bare 6 AWG stranded copper is widely used in residential, commercial, and light industrial electrical work. Typical applications include grounding electrode conductors (GEC), equipment grounding conductors (EGC), bonding jumpers, and neutral conductors in certain raceway assemblies. The soft-drawn temper keeps the wire pliable for in-field bending and termination. The 1000-foot spool format suits contractors completing larger jobs or supply houses stocking for resale and job-site cutting.
Designed as a general-purpose bare stranded copper conductor suitable for grounding electrode systems, bonding assemblies, and bare-conductor wiring installations where 6 AWG bare copper is specified.
Installation of grounding and bonding conductors must comply with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and any applicable local amendments. Always de-energize and lock out the circuit before making connections. Use listed lugs, mechanical connectors, or exothermic welding fittings rated for bare copper and sized for 6 AWG conductors. Verify conduit fill calculations using the 184-mil outer diameter before pulling the conductor through raceway.
