The BANDO AX22 is a classic cogged V-belt designed for power transmission in HVAC equipment, agricultural machinery, industrial fans, and general-purpose drive applications. Built from heat-resistant and oil-resistant rubber, this belt features a cogged underside that reduces bending resistance, runs cooler, and transfers power more efficiently than a standard smooth-back V-belt. The AX section profile measures 1/2 inch wide and 5/16 inch thick, with a 24-inch outside length and a 22-inch internal length. It meets ARPM standards and is suited for installations where a standard A-section belt has been updated to a cogged AX equivalent.
The AX22 is commonly installed in residential and light commercial HVAC systems, including belt-drive blower assemblies, condenser fan drives, and compressor drive systems. It is also used in pump drives, air compressors, and other equipment requiring a compact, high-flex drive belt. HVAC technicians and mechanical contractors typically specify AX-section cogged belts as direct upgrades to smooth A-section belts of the same pitch length. The cogged construction allows it to flex over smaller-diameter sheaves without cracking or glazing under heat.
The AX22 is an AX-section cogged V-belt compatible with sheaves and pulleys grooved for standard A-section or AX-section belts. It serves as a direct cogged upgrade for applications currently using a smooth A22 belt of equivalent pitch length.
Installation should be performed by a qualified HVAC technician or mechanical contractor. Always de-energize and lock out the equipment before removing or installing drive belts. Never force a belt over a sheave flange using a screwdriver or pry bar, as this damages the cord construction; instead, reduce center distance to allow the belt to seat properly. After installation, verify belt tension and sheave alignment according to the equipment manufacturer's service documentation before returning the unit to operation.
