The BALAX 40047-010 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting 6-32 UNC internal threads in a wide range of metals. Built from M42 powdered metal with a bright/uncoated finish, it features a 45-degree helix angle and a fast flute style that efficiently evacuates chips upward out of the hole - a key advantage when tapping blind holes. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of a hole. Overall length is 2 inches with a thread length of 0.48 inches. Thread limit is H7, indicating a slightly oversize tolerance class suited to plated or close-tolerance applications. This tap is part of the BALAX BX200 series and is intended for right-hand threading operations.
The 40047-010 is suited for production and maintenance tapping in aluminum, brass, bronze, copper, magnesium, zinc, wrought aluminum alloy, carbon steel, and stainless steel. The spiral flute design makes it a strong choice for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping arms where chip control in blind-hole applications is critical. Its 6-32 UNC size sees regular use in electrical enclosures, instrument panels, and light mechanical assemblies where small fasteners are common. Licensed machinists and experienced maintenance technicians are the typical end users.
Designed for cutting 6-32 UNC right-hand internal threads. Compatible material applications include aluminum, brass, bronze, carbon steel, copper, magnesium, stainless steel, wrought aluminum alloy, and zinc. Verify spindle speed, lubricant selection, and pre-drill hole diameter against the 6-32 UNC tap drill chart before use.
This tap is installed in a standard tap holder, tapping chuck, or floating tap collet appropriate for the shank diameter. Always use a suitable cutting fluid matched to the workpiece material - dry tapping is not recommended for stainless steel or copper alloys. Ensure the tap is properly aligned with the hole axis before engagement to avoid tap breakage. Follow shop safety practices and OSHA machine guarding requirements when operating tapping equipment.
