The BALAX 19274-00T is a thread forming tap designed for M16x2.00 metric coarse threading in blind hole applications. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than cut it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. This tap is manufactured from high-speed steel and coated with titanium nitride (TiN) for improved wear resistance and tool life. It features a bottoming chamfer with 2.5 chamfered threads, allowing threading to run close to the bottom of a blind hole. The 6H class of fit and D14 thread limit make it suitable for standard metric tolerance requirements. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals specify this tap for production and maintenance threading operations.
This tap is built for blind hole threading in metal components where a bottoming chamfer is required to maximize thread depth. The right-hand thread direction and single oil groove support lubricated forming operations. With an overall length of 3.5938 inches and a 1-inch thread length, it fits standard tapping chucks and holders used in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual tapping setups. The BXMB series designation indicates it is part of BALAX's metric bottoming forming tap line.
Designed for M16x2.00 metric coarse right-hand blind hole threading applications requiring a 6H class of fit. Fits standard tapping chucks and holders accepting a 0.4800-inch shank diameter.
Thread forming taps require a specific drill size matched to the material and desired thread engagement - consult a thread forming drill chart before use. Always apply appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil; forming taps generate higher torque than cutting taps and lubrication is critical. Secure the workpiece firmly and ensure the tap is aligned perpendicular to the work surface before starting. Use a torque-controlled tapping attachment when possible to avoid tap breakage, especially in harder alloys.
