The BALAX 18345-01T is a bottoming-style thread forming tap designed for M6x1.00 metric coarse threads with a 4H class of fit. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than cut it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. This tap is manufactured from high-speed steel and coated with titanium nitride (TiN) for improved wear resistance and tool life. With an overall length of 2.5 inches and a tapping depth of 1 inch, it is suited for blind hole applications where thread engagement depth is critical. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals specify this tap for precision metric threading in production and maintenance environments.
This tap is intended for blind hole threading operations in metalworking applications. The bottoming chamfer, with 2.5 chamfered threads, allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole, maximizing usable thread length. The D5 thread limit and right-hand thread direction are standard for general metric fastener applications. The BXMB series designation identifies this as part of BALAX's thread forming line, appropriate for ductile materials where cold-forming is preferred over chip-generating thread cutting.
Designed as a replacement or standard-production bottoming thread forming tap for M6x1.00 metric coarse blind hole applications requiring a 4H class of fit in ductile materials.
Thread forming taps require adequate lubrication and are suitable only for ductile materials such as aluminum, mild steel, and similar alloys - they are not appropriate for cast iron or brittle materials. Power down and secure the workpiece before tool changes. Recommended practice is to pre-drill with the correct thread-forming tap drill size for M6x1.00 to achieve the proper minor diameter before tapping. Follow shop safety standards and applicable machining codes when operating tapping equipment.
