The BALAX 14910-000 is a thread forming tap designed for creating internal threads in ductile materials without cutting or removing material. Unlike cutting taps, this forming tap cold-forms threads by displacing material, producing stronger threads with better surface finish. It is configured in a plug chamfer style with a 4-thread lead, making it suitable for through-hole threading applications. Built from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, the 14910-000 carries a thread limit of H10 and is part of the BXP series. It is used by machinists, maintenance technicians, and precision manufacturing professionals working with ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
This tap is engineered for through-hole threading in 3/4-16 UNF (Unified National Fine) applications. The plug chamfer configuration makes it a versatile choice for production environments where holes are threaded completely through the workpiece. The BXP series design incorporates a single oil groove to aid lubrication during the forming process. It fits standard tapping chucks and drivers sized for its 0.590-inch shank diameter and 0.442-inch square drive. Typical installations include industrial machining operations, maintenance and repair work, and fabrication where fine-thread fastener engagement is required.
Designed for through-hole threading applications requiring 3/4-16 UNF Class 2B internal threads. Compatible with standard tapping chucks and drivers accepting a 0.590-inch shank diameter with a 0.442-inch square drive end.
Thread forming taps require adequate lubrication at all times during operation - use a cutting or tapping fluid appropriate for the workpiece material. Ensure the correct tap drill size for forming taps is used, as forming taps require a larger pilot hole diameter than cutting taps for the same thread size. Secure the workpiece fully before tapping and confirm the tap is driven in true axial alignment with the hole to avoid thread distortion or tap breakage. This tool should be installed and operated by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with tapping procedures.
