The BALAX 11308-000 is a thread forming tap designed for cutting 6-32 UNC internal threads in through-hole applications. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps cold-form the thread by displacing material rather than cutting chips, producing stronger threads with a better surface finish. Built from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, this plug chamfer tap is part of the BXP series. It measures 2 inches overall length with a shank diameter of 0.141 inches and a square drive size of 0.110 inches. The H8 thread limit designation specifies the tolerance class for the finished thread. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians use this tap in production and repair environments.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading in ductile materials such as aluminum, copper, brass, and mild steel where chip-free thread forming is preferred. The plug chamfer with 4 chamfered threads makes it appropriate for starting in a pre-drilled through hole. With a tapping depth of 0.6875 inches and a thread length of 0.45 inches, it fits standard 6-32 applications in light manufacturing, electrical enclosure assembly, and precision mechanical assembly work.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard production tap for through-hole 6-32 UNC threading operations in compatible machine tapping and hand tapping setups.
Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill hole, which is larger than a standard cut tap drill size for the same thread - consult a thread forming tap drill chart before use. Apply a suitable tapping lubricant or cutting oil to the tap and workpiece before starting. Secure the workpiece firmly and ensure the tap is driven straight and true to avoid bell-mouthed or misaligned threads. This tap is intended for use by trained machinists or technicians familiar with thread forming processes.
