The BALAX 11307-000 is a thread forming tap designed for producing 6-32 UNC internal threads in through-hole applications. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps cold-form the thread profile by displacing material rather than cutting it, resulting in stronger threads with no chips to clear. This tap is manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish and belongs to BALAX's BXP series. It carries a plug chamfer with 4 chamfered threads for gradual thread engagement. The H7 thread limit designation indicates the tolerance class for the finished thread. At 2 inches overall length, this tap is suited for standard machine tapping setups used by machinists, maintenance technicians, and production shops.
This tap is intended for through-hole threading in ductile materials where cold-forming is appropriate, such as low-carbon steel, aluminum, and similar workpiece materials. The plug chamfer style makes it well-suited for both hand tapping and machine tapping operations where the tap can pass fully through the workpiece. The BXP series designation identifies it as a BALAX cold-forming tap optimized for consistent thread production in production and repair environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use thread forming tap for standard 6-32 UNC through-hole tapping applications in compatible tapping machines, drill presses, or hand tap holders accepting a 0.141 inch shank diameter.
Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill - consult a forming tap drill chart for the correct hole diameter before use, as it differs from standard cut tap drill sizes. Always apply a suitable tapping lubricant or cutting fluid rated for the workpiece material to reduce forming forces and extend tap life. Secure the workpiece and ensure the tap enters the hole perpendicular to the surface to avoid bell-mouthed or misaligned threads. This tap should be installed and operated by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with thread forming processes.
