The BALAX 10007-010 is a thread forming tap designed to produce 0-80 UNF internal threads in ductile materials without cutting or removing material. Rather than cutting, it cold-forms threads by displacing metal, resulting in stronger threads with no chips to clear. The bottoming chamfer style, with 2.5 chamfered threads, allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. Built from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, this tap carries a Thread Limit of H7 and is suited for precision fastener applications requiring tight tolerance control. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users.
This tap is intended for blind hole threading operations in materials that respond well to cold forming, such as aluminum, copper, brass, and mild steel. The 0-80 UNF thread size is common in miniature fastener applications found in instrument manufacturing, electronics assembly, and precision mechanical assemblies. The right-hand thread direction is standard for the vast majority of threaded fastener installations. Its compact overall length of 1.625 inches makes it compatible with close-quarters setups and small workpiece fixtures.
Designed for use in standard tap holders and collet chucks accepting a 0.141-inch shank diameter, suited for blind hole threading applications requiring 0-80 UNF right-hand threads in ductile workpiece materials.
Thread forming taps require proper lubrication with a tapping fluid appropriate for the workpiece material - do not run dry. Ensure the tap is properly aligned perpendicular to the workpiece surface before engagement to avoid thread distortion or tap breakage. Secure the workpiece fully before tapping operations, and use a torque-limiting tap holder when possible to prevent overload on this small-diameter tap. Consult the tap manufacturer drill size recommendations to achieve the correct pre-drill diameter for the H7 thread limit.
