The BALAX 10002-010 is a thread forming tap designed for cutting 0-80 UNF internal threads in blind holes. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than remove chips, producing stronger threads with a better surface finish. This tap is manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish and carries an H2 thread limit for close tolerance work. With a bottoming chamfer of 2.5 threads, it is suited for threading close to the bottom of blind holes where full thread engagement is required. Machinists and tool-and-die technicians working in precision manufacturing, electronics hardware, and instrumentation typically install and use this tap.
This tap is applied in blind hole threading operations on ductile metals and soft alloys where chipless thread forming is preferred. The 0-80 UNF thread size is common in miniature fastener applications found in electronics enclosures, optical instruments, and small mechanical assemblies. The Series BXB designation places it within the BALAX cold-forming tap line. It runs in right-hand thread direction and requires no coolant-through capability for standard low-speed or hand-tapping setups.
Designed for blind hole threading in ductile materials requiring 0-80 UNF Class 2B or 3B internal threads. Verify correct tap drill size for thread forming operations, as forming taps require a larger pilot hole than cutting taps of the same thread size.
Thread forming taps should be installed by qualified machinists or toolmakers familiar with chipless tapping operations. Always use the correct tap drill diameter specified for forming taps - using a cutting tap drill size will result in oversized threads or tap breakage. Apply appropriate tapping fluid before and during the operation. For machine tapping, use a tapping head or CNC rigid tapping cycle to maintain proper feed rate matched to thread pitch.
