The AY MCDONALD 5423-279 is a lead-free brass insert adapter designed to transition a 0.5-inch PEX-A tubing run to a female sweat (solder) copper connection. The insert end expands into PEX-A pipe using an expansion tool, creating a reliable, compression-style seal when the pipe contracts around the fitting. The female sweat end accepts a standard copper male-sweat fitting or valve, allowing integration with existing copper systems. Licensed plumbers install this fitting in residential and light commercial potable water distribution systems where PEX-A and copper must be joined at a transition point.
This adapter is suited for cold and hot water supply lines in new construction and retrofit projects. It is commonly used where a PEX-A branch line meets a copper manifold, shutoff valve, or fixture connection. The lead-free brass construction meets requirements for potable water contact. The fitting is appropriate for concealed and exposed installations in walls, ceilings, and mechanical spaces.
Designed as an OEM-style transition fitting for 0.5-inch PEX-A tubing systems connecting to female sweat copper fittings in residential and light commercial potable water applications.
Installation of the PEX-A insert end requires a compatible PEX-A expansion tool and the appropriate expander head for 0.5-inch tubing. Shut off the water supply and depressurize the line before beginning work. The female sweat end should be soldered by a licensed plumber following applicable IPC and local plumbing code requirements, using lead-free solder on potable water systems. Allow solder joints to cool fully before restoring pressure to the line.
