The AY MCDONALD 5423-251 is a lead-free brass insert adapter designed to transition a 1/2 inch PEX-A tubing run to a male iron pipe thread (MIPT) connection. The insert end expands and grips PEX-A tubing using the expansion method, creating a secure mechanical bond as the tubing returns to its original diameter. The MIPT end threads directly into female-threaded fittings, valves, or manifold ports. This fitting is suited for potable water systems and is appropriate for installation by licensed plumbers working on residential and light commercial plumbing systems.
This adapter is used where a PEX-A distribution line must connect to a threaded fitting, valve, manifold, or fixture port. Typical applications include connecting PEX-A supply lines to ball valves, shutoff valves, boiler connections, and threaded manifold inlets. The lead-free brass construction meets requirements for use in potable water systems under NSF and applicable plumbing codes. It is appropriate for both hot and cold water service lines.
Designed as an OEM-style transition fitting for 1/2 inch PEX-A tubing systems requiring a male iron pipe thread termination point.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with the International Plumbing Code (IPC) and applicable local codes. Shut off the water supply and relieve system pressure before making any connections. The insert end requires an expansion tool rated for PEX-A (ASTM F1960) tubing and a properly sized PEX-A expansion ring before insertion. Apply thread sealant or PTFE tape to the MIPT threads and tighten to fitting manufacturer specifications without over-torquing the brass body.
