The AY MCDONALD 5420-318 is a no-lead bronze female adapter fitting designed for connecting polyethylene pipe to threaded pipe systems. It features an insert end on one side and a female NPT (FNPT) thread on the other, allowing a secure transition between insert-style PE pipe and standard threaded fittings. Rated at 125 psi cold working pressure, this adapter meets the demand of pressurized water service lines and distribution systems. The fitting is certified to contain less than 0.25% lead by weight, meeting no-lead compliance standards required in potable water applications. Licensed plumbers and water service contractors are the primary installers.
This adapter is suited for residential and light commercial water service applications where polyethylene pipe connects to threaded bronze or brass components. Typical installations include underground water service lines, irrigation mains, and similar pressure piping systems. The 2-inch nominal size makes it appropriate for main service line work where larger PE pipe diameters are used. The insert-style connection provides a reliable, vibration-resistant joint when used with the appropriate stainless steel clamps or crimp rings.
Designed for use with 2-inch nominal polyethylene pipe in insert-style fitting applications. Compatible with standard FNPT-threaded fittings and valves on the threaded end.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and IPC guidelines. Shut off the water supply and relieve system pressure completely before making any connections. The insert end requires an appropriate stainless steel clamp or crimp ring secured with the correct tooling for the pipe material and diameter. Do not overtighten threaded connections — use thread sealant or PTFE tape on the FNPT end and hand-tighten before applying final torque with a wrench.
