The AXIS COMMUNICATIONS 01679-001 is the M7104 Video Encoder, a compact unit designed to convert analog video signals into digital network streams. It allows legacy analog cameras to integrate into IP-based surveillance systems without requiring full camera replacement. Security integrators and low-voltage technicians install this encoder to extend the service life of existing analog infrastructure while gaining the network management and remote access capabilities of a modern IP video system.
The M7104 is suited for both residential and commercial security installations where analog cameras are already in place. It is commonly deployed in upgrade projects where full camera replacement is not practical, enabling existing coax-connected cameras to transmit video over Ethernet to network video recorders or video management software platforms.
Designed as an OEM-style encoder for use in IP-based video surveillance systems accepting analog video input signals.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed low-voltage or security systems technician. Power down all connected equipment before wiring the encoder into the network and camera infrastructure. Follow local low-voltage wiring codes and the NEC for any power connections. Confirm network switch port settings and video management software compatibility prior to commissioning.
We pulled together the parts most installs need for this unit, plus a few add-ons worth a look. Check what you need — nothing here blocks checkout.
