The ATCO RUBBER PRODUCTS FD-16X25-R6FB is a 16-inch diameter, 25-foot insulated flexible air duct rated at R-6, designed for low-to-medium operating pressure HVAC distribution systems. It is manufactured with a tri-directional fiberglass scrim reinforced, metallized polyester outer jacket that provides both durability and thermal retention. The inner core is air-tight and built to handle the pressure demands of residential and light commercial forced-air systems. This product carries UL 181 Class 1 Air Duct certification, meeting the fire and smoke safety requirements that most jurisdictions mandate for flexible duct installations. Licensed HVAC technicians and sheet metal contractors are the primary installers of this product.
This flex duct is suited for residential and light commercial HVAC supply and return air distribution. It is commonly used in attic, basement, and crawlspace installations where a flexible run is needed to connect a main trunk line or plenum to a diffuser or register boot. The R-6 insulation level meets or exceeds the minimum insulation requirements for ducts in unconditioned spaces as specified in most energy codes, making it appropriate for attic and exterior-wall-adjacent runs where thermal loss is a primary concern.
Designed as an OEM-style flexible duct for residential and light commercial HVAC supply and return air distribution systems operating at low-to-medium static pressure. Compatible with standard 16-inch sheet metal collars, plenum takeoffs, and register boots.
Installation should be performed by a licensed HVAC technician in accordance with ACCA Manual D, SMACNA guidelines, and applicable local mechanical codes. Power down the air handler and close the system before connecting or disconnecting duct sections. Secure each end with an approved drawband or metal clamp and mastic or UL 181-listed tape — never use standard cloth duct tape. Avoid sharp bends and excessive compression of the duct, as both conditions reduce airflow and can degrade the insulation jacket over time.
