The ASSOCIATED SPRING RAYMOND 205-720 is a heavy-duty die spring engineered for use in stamping dies, press tooling, and precision industrial applications. It features a trapezoidal wire shape that delivers a higher load capacity in the same envelope compared to round-wire springs, making it well suited for demanding cyclic compression service. With a free length of 5 inches (127 mm), a spring rate of 730.90 N/mm, and a maximum deflection load of 4,864 N, this red-coded spring sits in the heavy-load classification of the standard die spring color series. Installation and replacement is performed by tool and die makers, maintenance machinists, and press technicians.
This spring is designed for use in die sets where a 40 mm hole diameter and a 20 mm rod diameter are required. The red color designation indicates a heavy-load duty rating within the ISO 10243 die spring standard. It is appropriate for progressive dies, blanking dies, forming dies, and general press tooling across both production and job-shop environments. The 38 mm maximum deflection matches the travel-to-solid load, which simplifies die design calculations when setting shut height and pre-load.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement die spring for tooling applications requiring a 40 mm hole diameter, 20 mm rod diameter, and 5 inch free length in the heavy-load (red) classification per ISO 10243.
Die spring replacement is performed by qualified tool and die technicians or maintenance machinists with the press locked out and all stored energy relieved before disassembly. Inspect the mating hole bore and guide rod for wear or scoring before installing the new spring, as out-of-tolerance guidance accelerates fatigue failure. Do not compress this spring beyond its rated maximum deflection of 38 mm; exceeding travel-to-solid load shortens service life significantly. Follow the press and die manufacturer guidelines for pre-load setting and shut-height adjustment after spring replacement.
