The ASSOCIATED SPRING RAYMOND 204-716 is a medium-duty die spring designed for use in stamping dies, punch presses, and industrial tooling applications. It features a trapezoidal wire cross-section, which increases the active coil surface area compared to round-wire springs and allows for higher load capacity within the same envelope. The spring has a 4-inch (102 mm) free length, a 40 mm hole diameter, and a 20 mm rod diameter. At maximum deflection of 38 mm, it delivers a load of 691.96 pounds (3078 N). Constructed from chromium alloy steel, the blue color-coding identifies it as a medium-duty spring per ISO 10243 standards.
This die spring is suited for use in metal stamping, forming, and die-cutting tooling where consistent, repeatable spring force is required. It fits standard die sets that accept a 40 mm hole diameter and a 20 mm guide rod. The medium-duty rating makes it appropriate for moderate-load cycling applications in both production tooling and maintenance replacement scenarios. Tool and die makers, press room technicians, and maintenance machinists are the typical installers of this component.
Designed as an ISO 10243-compliant medium-duty die spring for use in standard 40 mm bore die spring pockets with a 20 mm guide rod. Compatible with any die set or tooling assembly built to ISO 10243 medium-duty blue-class spring specifications.
Die spring replacement should be performed by a qualified tool and die maker or press room technician with the press fully de-energized and all stored energy released before disassembly. Inspect the guide rod and spring pocket for wear, scoring, or misalignment before installing the replacement spring, as these conditions accelerate fatigue failure. Never compress a die spring beyond its rated maximum deflection of 38 mm, and do not grind or modify the spring ends. Follow applicable tooling safety standards and the press manufacturer's lockout/tagout procedures during service.
