The ASSOCIATED SPRING RAYMOND 104-448 is a medium heavy-duty die spring designed for use in tooling, stamping, and press applications where consistent, repeatable force is required. It features a trapezoidal wire shape that delivers higher load capacity relative to its compressed height compared to round-wire springs of the same size. The spring carries a maximum deflection load of 159.8 pounds over a maximum deflection of 4.44 inches, with a spring rate of 35.00 pounds per inch. The 12-inch free length, 3/4-inch hole diameter, and 3/8-inch rod diameter make it straightforward to size into standard die sets. Fabricated from chromium alloy steel for fatigue resistance under cyclic loading.
This die spring is suited for use in metal stamping dies, injection mold tooling, punch and die assemblies, and other industrial press applications where controlled spring force is critical to part quality and tool life. The red color coding identifies it as a medium heavy-duty spring per international die spring standards, allowing quick identification during die maintenance and rebuild operations. It is typically installed and serviced by tool and die makers, press maintenance technicians, and mechanical engineers working with production tooling.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit die spring for standard die sets accepting a 3/4-inch hole diameter and 3/8-inch rod diameter with a 12-inch free length.
Die spring installation and replacement should be performed by qualified tool and die makers or press maintenance personnel with the press fully de-energized and locked out per applicable OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Always verify that the rod diameter and hole diameter of the die set match the spring specifications before installation. Do not exceed the rated maximum deflection of 4.44 inches, as over-compression accelerates fatigue failure and can cause spring breakage. Inspect springs at regular maintenance intervals for signs of cracking, set, or corrosion.
