The ASSOCIATED SPRING RAYMOND 103-628 is a medium-duty die spring designed for use in tooling, stamping dies, and press applications where consistent, reliable compression force is required. Built from chromium alloy steel with a trapezoidal wire cross-section, this spring delivers a maximum deflection load of 364 pounds and a spring rate of 104 pounds per inch. The blue color coding identifies it as a medium-duty grade per standard die spring classification. It is typically installed by tool and die makers, press technicians, and industrial maintenance professionals working with metal stamping and forming equipment.
This die spring fits applications requiring a 1-1/4 inch hole diameter and a 5/8 inch rod diameter, with a free length of 7 inches. Maximum deflection is 3.5 inches, allowing the spring to compress to approximately half its free length under full load. Common install scenarios include progressive dies, injection molds, and similar high-cycle tooling where dimensional consistency and load repeatability are critical. The trapezoidal wire profile increases load capacity relative to round-wire springs of the same envelope size.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-install die spring for tooling and stamping die assemblies requiring a 1-1/4 inch hole diameter and 5/8 inch rod diameter with a 7 inch free length medium-duty blue-grade specification.
Installation and replacement of die springs should be performed by qualified tool and die or press maintenance personnel with the press fully de-energized and locked out per applicable OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Verify that the mating hole diameter and guide rod diameter match the spring specifications before installation to prevent side-loading and premature fatigue failure. Do not exceed the rated maximum deflection of 3.5 inches during service, as over-compression shortens spring life and can cause breakage.
