The ASHLAND WATER GROUP PSL2040 is a 20/40 PSI low-pressure cut-off switch designed for automatic pressure control in residential well pump systems. It monitors system pressure and cycles the pump on at 20 psi and off at 40 psi, maintaining consistent water delivery without manual intervention. The switch is intended for use with both jet pumps and submersible well pumps and is compatible with diaphragm-style pressure tanks and galvanized pressure tanks. Licensed plumbers and well pump service technicians are the typical installers for this component.
This pressure switch is applied in residential potable water supply systems where a well pump draws from a drilled or bored well. It mounts at or near the pressure tank and serves as the primary on/off control for the pump motor, responding to pressure drops caused by household water demand. It is specifically suited for systems paired with a diaphragm pressure tank or a galvanized tank and is not intended for booster pump or irrigation-only applications where different cut-in and cut-off settings are required.
Designed for use with jet pumps and submersible well pumps when installed in conjunction with a diaphragm pressure tank or galvanized pressure tank in residential water supply systems.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified well pump technician. Before replacing or adjusting the pressure switch, shut off power to the pump at the breaker and relieve system pressure at the tank or a downstream fixture. The switch connects to low-voltage pump control wiring and must be wired in accordance with NEC requirements for the applicable circuit rating. Do not adjust the internal spring settings beyond the factory 20/40 differential without verifying the pressure tank pre-charge and system design can support the change.
