The ASHLAND WATER GROUP AV-56 is a shallow well air volume control designed to maintain the proper ratio of air to water inside a galvanized steel pressure tank. It installs on the tank and works in conjunction with a submersible pump to prevent waterlogging by ensuring adequate air cushion volume is preserved during pump cycles. The unit is built with metal construction for durability in wet mechanical environments. It ships with 48 inches of poly tubing and fittings included for a complete installation. This part is intended for plumbers and pump service technicians working on residential or light commercial well water systems.
This air volume control is used specifically with galvanized pressure tanks paired with submersible pumps in shallow well applications. It is not compatible with pre-charged or bladder-style pressure tanks, which do not require external air volume management. Typical installations involve residential well systems where the pressure tank lacks an internal diaphragm or bladder and relies on a captive air charge maintained by the control. The included poly tubing simplifies the connection between the control fitting and the tank air port.
Designed for use with submersible pumps and galvanized pressure tanks in shallow well water systems. Not intended for use with pre-charged pressure tanks.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified pump service technician. Shut off power to the pump and relieve all pressure from the tank and supply line before beginning work. Follow local plumbing codes and manufacturer guidelines when connecting the poly tubing to the tank air port. Do not use this control on bladder or diaphragm-type pre-charged tanks.
