The ASC Engineered Solutions 8700134508 is a malleable black iron reducing coupling designed to connect pipes of two different sizes in threaded piping systems. It transitions from a 1-1/4 inch female thread on the larger end to a 1/2 inch female thread on the smaller end. Malleable iron construction delivers high tensile strength and impact resistance, making this fitting durable in demanding service environments. The black finish provides resistance to water, air, and steam. National Pipe Thread (NPT) tapered threads on both ends form a tight, pressure-holding seal when properly installed with appropriate thread sealant.
This reducing coupling is suited for residential and commercial plumbing, HVAC hydronic, and steam distribution piping systems. It is commonly used wherever a piping run steps down in diameter, such as branch takeoffs, equipment connections, or system reconfigurations. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this type of fitting in low-pressure water, air, and steam service lines. It is sold individually.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard component for threaded malleable iron pipe systems using National Pipe Thread (NPT) fittings in 1-1/4 inch and 1/2 inch nominal pipe sizes.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter. Shut off and depressurize the piping system completely before removing or installing any threaded fittings. Apply a listed thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly and tighten to the fitting manufacturer and applicable IPC or IFGC recommendations. Do not over-tighten malleable iron fittings, as excessive force can crack the casting.
