The ASC Engineered Solutions 8700130803 is a hex galvanized bushing used to reduce a 1-inch female threaded pipe opening to a 1/2-inch male threaded connection. Manufactured from malleable iron with a hot-dip galvanized finish, this bushing resists corrosion in exposed or damp environments. The hex profile allows wrench tightening for a secure, leak-free joint. It meets Federal Specification WW-P-471-B, ANSI B-16.14 for dimensions, and ANSI B-2.1 for pipe threads. Plumbers and pipefitters install these fittings where pipe size reductions are needed within a threaded iron piping system. Sold as a single piece.
This hex bushing is suited for threaded iron piping systems in residential and commercial plumbing, HVAC hydronic loops, fire protection supply lines, and general industrial piping. It is used wherever a branch or terminal connection requires stepping down from 1-inch to 1/2-inch pipe. The galvanized coating makes it appropriate for installations subject to moisture or mild corrosive conditions. The 1-inch end carries the male thread, and the 1/2-inch end carries the female thread.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard component for threaded malleable iron piping systems conforming to ANSI B-16.14 dimensional requirements and ANSI B-2.1 pipe thread specifications.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters following applicable IPC or local plumbing codes. Shut off and depressurize the piping system fully before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate pipe thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly. Do not over-tighten; use a pipe wrench on the hex profile and avoid applying torque to adjacent pipe runs.
