The ASC ENGINEERED SOLUTIONS 8700128856 is a malleable black iron hex bushing used to reduce a larger threaded pipe opening to a smaller one. The 3/8-inch male thread connects to the larger port, while the 1/8-inch female thread accepts the smaller pipe or fitting. Manufactured from malleable black iron, this bushing provides reliable strength and durability in low-pressure piping assemblies. It meets Federal Specification WW-P-471-B, ANSI B-16.14 for dimensions, and ANSI B-2.1 for pipe thread standards. Plumbers, pipefitters, and gas service technicians install this type of fitting in both residential and light commercial applications.
This hex bushing is suited for use in gas distribution piping, steam lines, and water supply systems where a threaded reduction is needed at a junction or equipment port. The hexagonal outer profile allows standard wrench engagement for secure installation. It is sold individually and is appropriate for new construction, retrofit, and repair work wherever a 3/8-inch to 1/8-inch NPT reduction is required.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for threaded black iron pipe systems requiring a 3/8-inch to 1/8-inch NPT reduction.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter following applicable IFGC or IPC code requirements for the service type. Shut off all gas or fluid supply and relieve system pressure before working on any threaded connection. Apply an approved thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly. Tighten using a pipe wrench on the hex body — do not overtighten malleable iron fittings, as the material can crack under excessive torque.
