The ASC ENGINEERED SOLUTIONS 8700123956 is a 2-inch malleable black iron 90-degree elbow, also referred to as a 1/4 bend, used to change pipe direction in threaded piping systems. Constructed from malleable iron meeting ASTM A-197 chemical and physical property standards, this fitting features a flat banded body and conforms to ANSI B-16.3 dimensional standards and ANSI B-2.1 pipe thread standards. It is sold individually and weighs 2.043 pounds. Plumbers and pipefitters install this fitting in low-pressure piping systems for water, steam, and gas distribution.
This elbow is suited for residential and light commercial threaded pipe applications where a 90-degree directional change is required. Typical uses include branch takeoffs, riser connections, and service line routing in mechanical rooms, utility spaces, and above-ceiling runs. The black iron finish makes it well suited for gas distribution and steam piping where a galvanized coating is not required or preferred. The NPT-threaded ends accept standard 2-inch pipe.
Designed as an OEM-style threaded fitting for standard 2-inch NPT black iron pipe systems in residential and commercial plumbing, gas, and steam applications.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter following applicable IPC and IFGC requirements for the intended service. Thread both mating pipe ends with the appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape before assembly. Hand-tighten first, then wrench-tighten to a snug fit without over-torquing the malleable iron body. Always depressurize and isolate the line before disassembling or installing any threaded fitting.
