The ASC ENGINEERED SOLUTIONS 310508601 is a 1.5-inch extra-heavy (XH) black malleable iron 90-degree street elbow designed for threaded pipe systems in commercial and industrial plumbing applications. Conforming to ASTM A-197 material specifications and ASME B16.3 pressure rating standards, this fitting accepts a female pipe thread (FPT) on one end and a male pipe thread (MPT) on the other, allowing direct connection between pipe segments without a coupling. The black finish is standard for gas and certain liquid piping systems. UL and FM listings indicate suitability for fire protection and other regulated piping systems. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this fitting in systems requiring a 90-degree directional change.
This street elbow is used in residential, commercial, and light industrial piping installations where a 90-degree turn is needed in a threaded black iron or malleable iron system. The FPT-by-MPT configuration makes it a street pattern fitting, useful when space constraints prevent inserting a standard elbow between two pipe sections. Typical applications include gas distribution piping, steam systems, and hydronic heating lines where extra-heavy wall construction is specified for higher-pressure service.
Designed as an OEM-style threaded replacement fitting for 1.5-inch extra-heavy black malleable iron piping systems conforming to ASME B16.3 standards.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable codes including the International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC) or International Plumbing Code (IPC). Shut off and depressurize the system completely before disassembling any threaded connections. Apply an approved pipe thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before makeup, and tighten to proper engagement using a pipe wrench. Do not over-tighten malleable iron fittings, as excessive force can crack the casting.
