The ASC Engineered Solutions CXB.BMC is a malleable iron pipe reducing coupling designed to connect pipes of two different diameters in threaded piping systems. It steps down from a 3/8 inch nominal female thread to a 1/4 inch nominal female thread, using FNPT end connections on both ends. Rated at 150 lb, this fitting is suitable for use in low-pressure gas, air, steam, and water service applications. The black finish is standard for this class of malleable iron fitting. It is a domestically produced component installed by licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians working on threaded iron pipe systems.
This reducing coupling is used in residential and light commercial piping applications where a threaded iron pipe run changes size. Typical scenarios include natural gas distribution piping, compressed air lines, and low-pressure steam or water systems. The FNPT threads on both ends accept standard male NPT pipe or fittings, making it compatible with common black iron pipe assemblies found in boiler rooms, mechanical rooms, and utility connections.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for 3/8 inch by 1/4 inch nominal threaded iron pipe systems using 150 lb class malleable iron fittings.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber, pipefitter, or HVAC technician. Shut off and depressurize the piping system fully before removing or installing any threaded fittings. Apply an approved pipe thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly, following applicable codes such as the IFGC for gas piping or the IPC for water and steam systems. Do not over-tighten threaded malleable iron fittings, as this can crack the fitting body.
