The ASC Engineered Solutions 8700134052 is a malleable black iron reducing coupling designed to connect piping of two different diameters in threaded pipe systems. It transitions from a 1/2-inch female thread on the larger end to a 1/4-inch female thread on the smaller end. Malleable iron construction provides high tensile strength and durability under pressure cycling. National Pipe Taper (NPT) threads on both ends form a tight, leak-resistant seal. The black iron finish adds resistance to water, air, and steam exposure, making this fitting appropriate for a range of fluid and gas conveyance applications.
This reducing coupling is suited for residential and light commercial piping installations where a threaded reducer is needed to step down pipe size. Typical applications include gas distribution lines, water supply piping, steam systems, and compressed air lines. Plumbers and pipefitters use this type of fitting when transitioning between supply and branch lines or when connecting equipment with a smaller inlet to a larger diameter run pipe.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard fitting for threaded malleable iron pipe systems using NPT-threaded connections in plumbing, gas, steam, and compressed air applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local codes, IPC, and IFGC requirements. Shut off and depressurize the supply line completely before removing or installing any threaded fittings. Apply thread sealant or PTFE tape appropriate for the conveyed medium before making up the joint. Do not over-tighten; follow standard hand-tight-plus-turns procedure appropriate for NPT fittings of this size.
