The ASC ENGINEERED SOLUTIONS 8700129557 is a hexagon pipe bushing made from malleable black iron. It reduces a 1-1/2-inch male thread down to a 1/2-inch female thread, allowing piping transitions between two different pipe sizes within a single fitting. The hex head profile accepts a standard pipe wrench or adjustable wrench for installation. This bushing is built to Fed. Spec. WW-P-471-B and conforms to ANSI B-16.14 for dimensions and ANSI B-2.1 for pipe threads. It is a standard component stocked and installed by licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors on both new construction and service work.
This bushing is used in residential and light commercial piping systems where a reducing connection is needed between two threaded black iron pipe segments. Common applications include gas distribution piping, steam and hot water heating systems, and industrial pipe assemblies. The black iron material is suited for dry or gas service. It ships as a single fitting and is typically used wherever a hex bushing reducer is called out on a piping isometric or fitting schedule.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard-stock hex bushing for threaded black iron piping systems requiring a 1-1/2-inch to 1/2-inch NPT reduction.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable codes such as the IFGC or IPC. Shut off and depressurize the piping system completely before disassembling any threaded connections. Apply an approved thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly. Do not overtighten; use a pipe wrench on the hex profile and bring the joint up snug with appropriate torque for the pipe size and service type.
