It features one male NPT end and one female NPT end, allowing it to make a right-angle direction change in a threaded pipe run without requiring a separate nipple on the male side. The fitting is manufactured from standard malleable iron with flat banded construction and meets Federal Specification WW-P-521F, ANSI B-16.3 for dimensions, ANSI B-2.1 for pipe threads, and ASTM A-197 for chemical and physical properties.
