The ASC ENGINEERED SOLUTIONS 8700124509 is a 90-degree reducing malleable black iron elbow, also referred to as a 1/4 bend, connecting a 1/2-inch inlet to a 3/8-inch outlet. Constructed from malleable iron with a flat banded design, this fitting is built to handle the mechanical stress of threaded pipe systems. It meets Federal Specification WW-P-521F, ANSI B-16.3 for dimensions, ANSI B-2.1 for pipe threads, and ASTM A-197 for chemical and physical properties. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters typically install this fitting where a directional change and a pipe size reduction are required in the same connection point.
This elbow is suited for residential and light commercial black iron pipe installations, including gas distribution lines and general plumbing applications where malleable iron fittings are specified. The reducing configuration eliminates the need for a separate bushing, making it a practical choice in tight or congested pipe runs where a direction change and size transition must occur simultaneously.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for standard threaded black iron pipe systems using NPT connections in accordance with ANSI B-2.1.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and IFGC requirements when used on gas lines. Shut off the gas or water supply and depressurize the line before beginning any fitting work. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or tape rated for the service fluid before making up the connection. Do not over-tighten threaded fittings, as malleable iron can crack under excessive torque.
