The ASC ENGINEERED SOLUTIONS 8700123907 is a 1-1/2 inch 90-degree malleable black iron elbow, also known as a 1/4 bend fitting. It is used to change pipe direction in threaded black iron piping systems. The flat banded body is cast from malleable iron meeting ASTM A-197 chemical and physical property standards. Pipe threads conform to ANSI B-2.1, and overall dimensions meet ANSI B-16.3. This fitting is also manufactured to Federal Specification WW-P-521F. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this type of fitting in gas distribution, steam, and general industrial piping applications.
This elbow is suited for residential and light commercial black iron pipe systems where a 90-degree direction change is required. Typical applications include natural gas supply lines, steam heating systems, and compressed air distribution. The malleable iron construction handles the pressure cycling and mechanical stress common in these systems. The flat banded exterior is standard for this fitting class and simplifies identification during installation and inspection.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement fitting for standard 1-1/2 inch threaded black iron pipe systems conforming to ANSI B-16.3 dimensional requirements.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local codes and IFGC or IPC requirements. Shut off and depressurize the piping system completely before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to male threads before making up the joint. Do not over-tighten; use pipe wrenches and back the adjacent pipe to avoid stressing upstream connections.
