The ASC Engineered Solutions 830500203 is a black steel extra heavy (XH) close nipple designed for threaded pipe assemblies in plumbing, HVAC, gas distribution, and industrial piping systems. A close nipple consists of two male-threaded ends with minimal unthreaded center material, allowing two fittings or valves to be joined in tight-clearance installations. This nipple measures 1/8 inch nominal pipe size with a close length of approximately 3/4 inch overall. The extra heavy wall classification provides additional strength and pressure capacity compared to standard-weight nipples, making it suitable for higher-demand applications. Installation is performed by licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians working with threaded black iron or steel pipe systems.
This close nipple is used in residential and commercial gas piping, steam systems, compressed air lines, and hydraulic distribution networks where a compact threaded connection is required. The 1/8 inch size is commonly found in instrumentation taps, pressure gauge ports, pilot gas lines, and branch connections off larger distribution headers. Its black steel construction distinguishes it from galvanized fittings and makes it appropriate for dry gas and non-potable services where corrosion protection is provided by the system design rather than a zinc coating.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting compatible with standard 1/8 inch NPT threaded pipe components including couplings, tees, elbows, valves, and gauges used in black iron threaded piping systems.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with the International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC) or International Plumbing Code (IPC) as applicable to the service type. Shut off and depressurize the pipe system completely before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an approved thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the intended service medium before making up the joint. Because close nipples have minimal unthreaded center material, use a strap wrench rather than a pipe wrench on the body to avoid damaging threads or distorting the fitting.
