The ARMOR COAT UST235996 is a hex socket cap screw designed for high-strength fastening applications in industrial, mechanical, and structural assemblies. This screw features a 1/2-13 UNC thread size, a 2.5-inch length under head, and a 3/8-inch hex drive. The alloy steel construction provides excellent tensile strength, and the Armor Coat finish delivers corrosion resistance suited for demanding environments. It is partially threaded, which is standard for load-bearing bolted joints where full-thread engagement is not required. Installation is performed with a 3/8-inch hex key or Allen-type driver. Machinists, millwrights, and maintenance technicians are the primary installers of this fastener type.
This cap screw is used in a wide range of industrial and mechanical applications including equipment assembly, fixture fabrication, jig construction, and machine maintenance. The 1/2-13 UNC coarse thread is well suited for general-purpose fastening in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where vibration resistance and thread engagement strength are priorities. Partial threading allows the unthreaded shank to act as a locating feature in through-hole applications. The Armor Coat finish makes this screw appropriate for use in moderately corrosive or outdoor service environments.
Designed as a standard ASME B18.3 hex socket cap screw for use in any application requiring a 1/2-13 UNC partially threaded fastener with a 3/8-inch hex drive.
Installation requires a 3/8-inch hex key or socket-head bit driver torqued to the fastener manufacturer or equipment OEM specification for 1/2-inch alloy steel cap screws. De-energize and lock out all equipment before replacing or installing fasteners in mechanical assemblies per applicable OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Inspect mating threads for damage or contamination before installation. Do not use an impact driver without a torque-limiting device, as overtorque can damage the Armor Coat finish and thread engagement.
