The ARMACELL apt40034r is a closed-cell elastomeric foam pipe cover from the AP ArmaFlex line, designed to insulate mechanical piping systems against thermal loss, condensation, and moisture accumulation. It fits 4-inch IPS pipe with a 4.5-inch inside diameter and a 0.75-inch wall thickness, delivering an R-value of 4.8. The closed-cell foam structure resists water vapor transmission at 0.08 perm-in and limits water absorption to 0.2 percent, keeping thermal performance intact over the life of the system. Each section runs 6 feet in length. Licensed HVAC technicians, pipefitters, and mechanical insulation contractors install this product on new construction and retrofit projects.
The apt40034r is suited for a wide range of mechanical piping applications including chilled water lines, refrigeration piping, hot and cold domestic water lines, and HVAC systems. Its moisture resistance makes it particularly effective on chilled water and refrigeration circuits where condensation would otherwise saturate fibrous insulation, degrade thermal performance, and promote fungal growth. It is also appropriate for exposed ceiling runs, air plenums, industrial mechanical rooms, and exterior installations. Schools, hospitals, universities, government buildings, and commercial facilities commonly specify this product for long-term system integrity.
Designed for use on 4-inch IPS (iron pipe size) mechanical piping in refrigeration, chilled water, hot water, and HVAC applications in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.
Installation is performed by licensed mechanical insulation contractors, pipefitters, or HVAC technicians following local mechanical codes and manufacturer guidelines. Shut down and depressurize the piping system before applying insulation on live or pressurized lines where required by site safety procedures. Seams and butt joints should be sealed with a compatible elastomeric adhesive to maintain vapor barrier continuity. On exterior applications, a protective jacketing or coating may be required to protect against UV degradation.
