The ARMACELL 11838 is a closed-cell elastomeric foam pipe insulation section from the AP Armaflex AC product line, designed to limit thermal losses and prevent condensation and moisture accumulation on mechanical piping systems. Each section covers a 1-1/8 inch pipe diameter with a 3/8 inch wall thickness and a 6-foot length. Licensed HVAC technicians and mechanical insulation installers use this product on refrigerant suction lines, chilled-water piping, and other low-temperature applications where moisture infiltration is a primary concern. The closed-cell structure resists moisture vapor transmission, keeping the insulation thermally effective over the life of the system.
This insulation section is suited for residential and commercial mechanical piping installations, including refrigeration lines, chilled-water distribution, and hydronic systems where condensation control is critical. Schools, hospitals, government buildings, and commercial facilities specify AP Armaflex for long-term performance on exposed and concealed piping. Its moisture-resistant construction is particularly effective where fibrous insulations would otherwise absorb condensation, degrade thermally, and become susceptible to fungal growth.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and new-installation insulation for mechanical piping with a 1-1/8 inch outside diameter, commonly found in refrigeration, chilled-water, and HVAC suction-line applications.
Installation is typically performed by licensed HVAC technicians or certified mechanical insulation contractors in accordance with local mechanical codes and ASHRAE insulation guidelines. De-energize and isolate the piping system and allow it to reach ambient temperature before applying insulation. Slit the foam lengthwise to slip it over existing piping, or thread over new piping before connections are made. Use manufacturer-approved contact adhesive at all seams and butt joints to maintain a continuous vapor barrier.
