The ARKEMA r32 is a single-component HFC refrigerant supplied in a 20 lb cylinder, designed for use in residential and light commercial air conditioning systems. Also identified as HFC-32 or R-32, this refrigerant carries a global warming potential (GWP) of 677, significantly lower than the 1924 GWP of R-410A, the system refrigerant it is positioned to replace. It delivers high refrigerating capacity with zero temperature glide, meaning it behaves as a pure fluid throughout the refrigeration cycle. Licensed HVAC technicians handle this refrigerant as part of new-equipment commissioning and service work on compatible inverter-driven and variable-speed systems.
r32 is used primarily in new air conditioning equipment engineered specifically for mildly flammable refrigerants under ASHRAE A2L classification. Its adoption is growing in residential split systems and multi-split configurations globally. The refrigerant is not a drop-in replacement for existing R-410A systems; it is intended for use in equipment designed and rated for R-32. Technicians working in markets aligned with next-generation refrigerant standards will encounter r32 increasingly in new-unit installation scenarios.
Designed for use in air conditioning systems engineered and rated for mildly flammable A2L refrigerants. Not a drop-in replacement for existing R-410A equipment. Consult equipment manufacturer specifications before use.
Only EPA Section 608 certified technicians may handle and recover this refrigerant. Because r32 is classified as an A2L mildly flammable refrigerant, follow all applicable safety codes and equipment manufacturer guidelines regarding ventilation and ignition source management during service. Recover all refrigerant before opening the system and use recovery equipment rated for A2L refrigerants. Do not mix with other refrigerants.
