The AQUASCAPE 98464 BioBalls Biological Filter Media is a wet/dry filter media designed to establish and sustain beneficial bacterial colonies in pond and water feature filtration systems. Each BioBall provides high surface area for bacterial biofilm attachment, supporting the nitrogen cycle by converting harmful ammonia and nitrite into less harmful nitrate. This pack includes 100 BioBalls and is installed by pond service professionals and experienced water feature technicians as part of a broader biological filtration setup.
BioBalls are suited for use in pressurized pond filters, waterfall filters, and external canister or sump-style filtration units found in residential water gardens, koi ponds, and decorative water features. They function in both submerged and trickle-filter (wet/dry) configurations, making them adaptable to a wide range of filtration designs. The 100-count quantity is appropriate for smaller filter chambers or as a supplement to existing biological media.
Designed as an OEM-style biological filter media for use in pond and water feature filtration systems that accept standard BioBall-style loose filter media.
Pond and water feature service professionals typically install biological filter media as part of a planned filter chamber configuration. Before servicing or replacing media, power down all pumps and UV units connected to the filter system. Never rinse BioBalls with chlorinated tap water, as chlorine kills the beneficial bacteria the media is designed to support — use pond water only. Allow adequate colonization time after installation before evaluating biological filtration performance.
