The AQUALINE DU1324 is a 1-1/4 inch dielectric union designed to prevent galvanic corrosion at the point where dissimilar metals meet in a piping system. It connects female iron pipe thread (FIPT) on one side to a sweat (solder) connection on the other, making it a direct-fit solution for joining threaded ferrous pipe to copper tubing. A dielectric insulating sleeve and washer isolate the two metal sections, stopping electrochemical degradation that shortens system life. Licensed plumbers install this fitting in water service, heating, and potable water distribution systems where steel or iron pipe transitions to copper.
This union is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing applications where a threaded iron or galvanized pipe must transition to copper tubing. Typical installation points include water heater connections, boiler supply and return lines, and main water service entries. The FIPT inlet threads onto a male-threaded iron or galvanized fitting, while the sweat end is soldered directly to 1-1/4 inch copper tube. It is particularly useful at water heater inlet and outlet ports, where code in many jurisdictions requires a dielectric device to separate dissimilar metals.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement dielectric union for residential and light commercial plumbing systems requiring a 1-1/4 inch FIPT to sweat transition between ferrous and copper piping.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with the International Plumbing Code (IPC) and local jurisdiction requirements. Shut off the water supply and relieve system pressure before disassembling any existing union or fitting. Apply thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male iron pipe threads before making up the FIPT connection, and fully solder the sweat end to clean, deburred copper tube before tightening the union nut. Do not overtighten the union nut, as excessive force can damage the dielectric washer and compromise the insulating function.
