The APPLETON GL-400-D is a malleable grounding locknut designed for use in electrical conduit installations requiring a reliable ground path at the fitting connection. Constructed from malleable iron, this locknut threads onto standard conduit hubs and enclosure knockouts to mechanically secure the conduit while establishing a continuous grounding bond. It is sized for 1-1/4 inch trade-size conduit. Electricians rely on this type of grounding locknut when code requires a dedicated bonding point separate from the standard locknut, particularly in industrial and commercial panel and enclosure work.
This locknut is suited for use in commercial and industrial electrical installations where grounded metallic conduit systems are required. Typical applications include service entrance equipment, motor control centers, panelboards, and junction boxes where rigid metal conduit or intermediate metal conduit terminates at an enclosure. It is installed by licensed electricians working on branch circuit, feeder, and service wiring in conduit systems.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement grounding locknut for use with 1-1/4 inch trade-size rigid metal conduit and intermediate metal conduit terminations at standard electrical enclosures and panelboards.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code) requirements for grounding and bonding of metallic conduit systems. De-energize all circuits and verify absence of voltage before working on or near the enclosure. The locknut should be tightened firmly against the enclosure wall to ensure solid metal-to-metal grounding contact. Do not substitute a standard locknut where a grounding locknut is specified by code or system design.
