The APPLETON EFSC175-F2 is a feed-through type explosionproof tumbler switch rated for 120 to 277 volts AC at 20 amps with a 2-pole contact configuration. Built around a malleable iron enclosure that meets ASTM A47-77 standards and is zinc electroplated with dichromate and epoxy powder coating, this switch is engineered to prevent arcing inside ignitable atmospheres during connect and disconnect operations involving lighting and light power loads. A licensed electrician installs it in classified hazardous locations where ignitable vapors, gases, or highly combustible dusts may be present. The front-operated lever actuator is made from Nylon 6/6, and the unit ships as a single-gang, single-piece assembly.
This switch is intended for use in Class I Division 1 and 2 Group C and D environments, Class II Division 1 and 2 Group E, F, and G environments, and Class III locations. Typical installation sites include chemical plants, petrochemical plants, refineries, and other process industries where the NEC requires explosionproof or dust-ignitionproof enclosures. The 3/4-inch hub accommodates standard conduit entries common in industrial wiring systems, and the single-gang box type integrates into existing classified-area panel arrangements.
Designed as an OEM-style explosionproof switch for hazardous-location wiring systems in industrial and process-industry applications requiring NEMA 7CD/9EFG rated enclosures and UL 894/1203 listed components.
Installation must be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with NEC Article 500 and applicable local codes governing hazardous classified locations. De-energize and lock out the circuit before opening any conduit or enclosure in the classified area. Ensure all conduit seals required by the classification are installed per code before energizing. Do not modify the enclosure, hub threads, or cover mating surfaces, as any alteration may compromise the explosionproof integrity of the assembly.
