The APPLETON AHB-140 is a self-regulating electric pipe heating cable designed to prevent freeze damage in water pipes and process piping. Operating at 120 volts and delivering up to 280 watts over a 40-foot run, this heat trace cable automatically adjusts its power output based on ambient temperature — increasing heat when conditions drop and reducing output as temperatures rise. It is installed by licensed electricians and mechanical contractors working on residential, light commercial, and industrial pipe freeze-protection systems.
The AHB-140 is suited for use on metal and plastic water supply pipes, drain lines, and instrumentation tubing in areas exposed to freezing temperatures. Typical applications include exterior wall penetrations, crawl spaces, attics, and outdoor pipe runs where consistent heat trace protection is required. The 40-foot length accommodates a wide range of straight-run and wrapped installation configurations.
Designed as an OEM-style self-regulating heat trace cable for freeze protection on residential and commercial pipe systems requiring 120-volt, low-wattage electric heat trace solutions.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with NEC Article 427 and applicable local codes. De-energize and lock out the branch circuit before making any connections or terminations. The cable must be properly end-sealed and the power connection kit installed per manufacturer instructions to maintain water and moisture resistance. Do not overlap the cable on itself during installation, as this can cause overheating.
