The APOLLO VALVES CON-9831620 is a copper guard rod designed to protect water gauge glass on boilers and other pressure vessels where a visual water level indicator is installed. Guard rods run parallel to the gauge glass to shield it from accidental impact, reducing the risk of breakage and the hazards that come with pressurized water or steam escaping from a damaged sight glass. Made from copper, this rod measures 3/16 inch in outer diameter and 20 inches in length. It is installed by licensed plumbers and steam fitters as part of a complete water gauge assembly on heating and process systems.
This guard rod is suited for use with water gauge assemblies in residential and commercial boiler applications where gauge glass protection is required by code or best practice. The 20-inch length accommodates standard sight glass configurations, and the copper construction offers good corrosion resistance in wet service environments. Installers replace or add guard rods when upgrading an existing gauge assembly or when performing boiler maintenance that requires gauge glass removal and reinstallation.
Designed for use with water gauge assemblies. Verify gauge assembly hardware accepts a 3/16-inch OD guard rod before ordering.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed plumber or steam fitter. Before servicing any water gauge assembly, shut off the boiler, isolate the gauge cocks, and allow the system to depressurize and cool completely. Refer to the boiler manufacturer's instructions and applicable local codes, including the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and IFGC requirements, for proper gauge assembly service procedures. Do not attempt to replace guard rods while the system is under pressure.
